Mangled Body of Forrest Smith is Found on Tracks
Authorities Are Probing the Mysterious Death of Soldier at Athens
Athens, Ala., Feb. 14 - Special - Authorities are today attempting to solve the mysterious death of Forrest Smith, a young man, whose body was found on the railroad about a mile south of Athens Saturday night. His body had been cut to pieces, his entire body, except the head, having been ground to fragments.
Details of the killing are not fully known, but it is believed by some that he was attempting to board a fast moving freight and was thrown under the wheels or had already gotten on the train and fell off.
The dead man returned recently from the army, having seen service in Mexico, where he was wounded in the leg. He was a brother of Ewell Smith of Athens and had a wide circle of friends.
The coroner's jury is investigating the case.
