Elizabeth "Betty" (Hardesty) McVay was the wife of John C. McVay. They were married on September 17, 1837 in Clinton County, Ohio. Elizabeth was the mother of fourteen children with John McVay including: Nancy, Henry, Jane, Angeline, Elizabeth, Luther and Keziah (Kitty) McVay. Betty was the daughter of Corp. Henry Hardesty and Sophiah (McFadden) Hardesty. Her father was a Veteran of the War of 1812. Betty's mother died when she was 12 years old and her father did not remarry. Betty's father descends from the Hardesty family of Calvert County, Maryland and the Beall family of Maryland who originally came from Scotland in the 1600s.
