Civil War Veteran, 57th Reg't OVI, served 4 years, in the battles of Shiloh Carenth, Sabina, Cross Roads the the Siege of Vicksburg where he was wounded. He remained on patrol duty in New Orleans after peace was declared. Jacob Sherwood was the 8th child of James Jefferson & Elizabeth Nellie (Simmons) Sherwood. He married in 1867 to Lucy Hafer, dau of Jacob & Lucinda (House) Hafer/Hofer.
