Mrs. Lillian Whitley (Nanny) Alexander of Fitzgerald died Saturday, September 2, 2000, at Dorminy Medical Center. She was 82.
Mrs. Alexander was born November 8, 1917, in Berrien County, the daughter of the late Warren Whitley and Gertrude McMillan Whitley. She was a member of Brushy Creek Primitive Baptist Church of Irwin County.
A lunchroom lady at Ben Hill County Primary School, Mrs. Alexander had lived in the community since 1955. She grew up in Irwin County. Mrs. Alexander was a former child care worker at the Nursery Rhyme Day Care Center of Fitzgerald. She was also a former employee of Holt's Bakery of Fitzgerald and the Patricia Shop in Fitzgerald. Mrs. Alexander was a loving mother, grandmother, and great grandmother.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur Alexander, two brothers, Malcolm (Mac) Whitley and Edgar (Peg) Whitley. Her parents died when she was three years old. She was raised by her grandfather, Malcolm McMillan.
Survivors include four sons, Warren Alexander of Talking Rock; Billy Alexander and Bobby Alexander of Fitzgerald, and Jimmy Alexander of Bowling Green, KY.;three daughters, Peggy Player, Terri Alexander and Connie Smith, all of Fitzgerald; eight grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.
Services were held at Paulk Funeral Home Chapel of Fitzgerald and Interment followed in Brushy Creek Cemetery in Irwin County.
