Enlisted as a Private on September 3, 1863 from Lincklaen, New york, at the age of 19 at Norwich, New York, mustering into Company I, 20th Cavalry Regiment New York. He mustered out of Company I, 20th Cavalry Regiment New York on 22 Jun 1865 at Richmond, VA.
It was reported in The Gleaner, Thursday, October 11, 1917 that on October 8, 1917 that he had a very serious case of blood poisoning. A council of doctors was held Saturday. His daughters, Mrs. Fred (Ida) Bosworth of Preston and Mrs. Dora Stanard of South Otselic were helping care for their father. (Actually, Dora was a niece.) He died that evening.
