It is believed that John may have died, possible during the Civil War, but this has not been confirmed. In the 1870 census for Madison Twp, Mercer Co., Missouri, Kiziah is found as Keziah Dauson age 35, widow, b. IN, Rebecca age 8, b. IN, and Charlotte age 5, b. IN, and she is living next to her brother Cally McQuerry.
It appears Kiziah moved to Caldwell Co., MO after 1870. On December 7, 1879, Keziah Dawson married Joseph R. Breeden, both of Caldwell Co., Missouri, at Hamilton, Caldwell Co., MO, by E. D. Newton, JP. The Breeden family, including Kiziah's daughters are in the 1880 census for Caldwell Co.
In the last of 1890's, Kiziah went to help her widowed brother, Marmaduke McQuerry to care for his four young children. She is in his home for the 1900 census of Mercer Co., Mo, age 64. widow, born Jan 1836 in Indiana, mother of 2 children with one living.
According to family, Kiziah was living with a married daughter near Waverly, MO. About 1915, the daughter (not sure which one), contacted her Uncle Duke, stating her mother was going blind and she was his responsibility, since she had helped him. He traveled to get his sister, but was unable to care for her, and had no alternative but to place her in the Mercer County Home.
Kiziah went to meet her maker on February 19, 1918, age 82y lm 8d, at the County Home, Princeton, Morgan Twp, Mercer County, Missouri. There is a death cert. but much is incorrect, as it was completed by the county home, without family assistance.
(By Classic and lt)
Note: Kiziah was with her parents in the 1860 census in Brown Twp, Hancock County, Indiana. A John Dawson age 21, is in the home of William Dawson age 29, Green Twp, Hancock Co., in 1860.
