Aged 27, from Maidstone, Kent.
He was deployed with the UK contingent of NATO ISAF forces serving in Afghanistan.
He and two Canadian Forces personnel, MCpl Pat Audet and Cpl Martin Joannette, died when their Griffon helicopter crashed during a mission near a forward operating base in Zabul province about 50 miles northeast of Kandahar City. Three other Canadian soldiers were slightly injured and the two pilots also survived. A flight safety investigation was underway to determine the cause of the crash although enemy action has been ruled out.
Capt Babington-Browne graduated from University College London in 2005 with a BSc in Physics with Medical Physics. He was a graphic designer before joining the Army and completing his officer's training at Sandhurst. He became a member of 22 Engineer Regiment in April 2007 and shortly afterwards deployed to Iraq, where he quickly distinguished himself as an exceptionally gifted leader. He was described by his senior officers as a "rising star" who had "the world at his feet".
He is survived by his mother Nina, his brother Daniel and other family members.
Funeral with full military honours held on Tuesday, July 28, 2009 at All Saints Church, Maidstone, followed by private committal service.
