Vote for DANIEL M. SHEELY
---- for STATE SENATOR-----

The nomination of Daniel M. Sheely, the Democratic candidate for State Senator in the 33rd Senatorial District of Adams and Franklin counties, is recognized in both counties as most appropriate and representative of his district.

Daniel M. Sheely answers that apt description of a "dirt farmer". He has not played at farming, but is to the manor born. He was born on the farm on which he now resides and he has lived there his entire life.

His parents were Noah Sheely, of the well-known Sheely family of Mt. Joy Towwnship, and Rebecca McIlvaine, of Mt. Pleasant. Both were natives of Adams County and of Democratic families. His father's family played a well known part in the affairs of the community. Aaron Sheely, a brother of Noah, was the most prominent figure in educational circles of the county for more than a quarter of a century, serving as County Superintendent for a number of years. The late Attorney, Clarence W. Sheely, was a first cousin of candidate. He is related to the Sheely's of Arendtsville, Bendersville and Littlestown and through them to a large relationship.

The name of Noah Sheely is so intertwined with the apple industry of Adams County it would not be amiss to tell something of it. When Noah Sheely was young, his grandfather planted several trees of apples and when they came to a bearing age their bright red color proved they were easy to sell at good prices and Noah Sheely, noting this fact, determined to plant an orchard of them, believing they would eventually bring a crop richer in return than anything on the farm.

Daniel M. Sheely has been part of the life of this orchard growing and farming since a boy. He has seen hundreds of people come to the home place and leave with all the information needed to encourage them in like efforts, and his experience in farming and cattle feeding has been just as available to all who want it. In this time the literature of the farm has grown prodigiously and Daniel M. Sheely has been a great reader, always interested in the things concerned with the welfare of the farm. He took pleasure in building his home. Later being impressed with the advantages of a circular barn for their needs, much attention was given to it's construction and the Sheely brothers' farm with the circular large barn has become known far and wide. Every one driving the Lincoln Highway reaches the hill above Cashtown and comes in sight of the big barn away down the valley.
-----------------------------
Mr. Sheely was educated in the common schools of Franklin Township and like others of his name has always shown a deep interest in all educational matters, especially those that meant a betterment of the schools. This was illustrated in his efforts devoted toward establishing the Vocational School of Arendtsville. The part to be taken by Franklin Township always received the persistent support and encouragement of Daniel M. Sheely.

Daniel M. Sheely has acquired an unusual business experience from being a Director of the First National Bank of Gettysburg for 11 years, retiring about two years ago, when his orchards and farms made greater demands upon his time.

Sheely Brothers', consisting of Daniel M. Sheely and Robert Sheely have increased their holdings in orchards and land until they have today under their care and supervision 1200 acres, 125 of the acres being operated as commercial apple orchards.

His interest in public affairs had been active, thorough and painstaking. He is one of Adams County's leading farmers and extensive fruit growers and his acquaintance broad and well merited. No man stands higher in the estimation of the people and his election may well be forecast, His character and ability will stand the closest scrutiny. This district could not be better represented than by Daniel M. Sheely.
