Daughter of William M. Smith, a station agent for the Santa Fe Railroad and Amelia Frantz, who came to New Mexico from Frieburg, Germany to visit the Huning families in Los Lunas and Albuquerque. It was there that William and Amelia met and after a courtship, they were married. In a year, a son Will H. Smith was born to them at the John Becker home in Belen. Soon after, William Smith was transferred to Trinidad, Colorado, where she grew up, met and married John H. Becker, Jr. Known as Hans. She attended Western College for Women for one year and had a busy life in Belen. She participated in civic and community affairs, taught music, worked for the Red Cross and its fund drives, the Chamber of Commerce, the Masonic Orders, the Salvation Army and its drives for funds, and as a bookkeeper at the First National Bank of Belen. Stella and Hans had one son, John Becker III, who grew to manhood in Belen and married Margaret Wright of Arizona. John III died after an operation and just a few months later, his father, J.H. Becker, Jr. (Hans) passed away November 3, 1939. Stella Smith Becker died June 16, 1981 and was buried in Terrace Grove Cemetery at Belen, New Mexico.
