Wanda Verneice Peterson Berrett, 97, passed away peacefully July 4, 2009, in Idaho Falls, Idaho.

Wanda was born June 15, 1912, in Taylor, Idaho, to Magnus Ray Peterson and Ida Jane Lords Peterson. She was the oldest of six children. She spent the early part of her growing- up years in Idaho and then moved to Salt Lake City, Utah, with her family. She attended East High School and worked at varying occupations throughout her teenage years.

When Wanda was 20 years old, she moved back to Idaho for work. Her cousin convinced her to attend a dance in Ucon, Idaho, where she met Bert Berrett. After a short courtship and no formal proposal, they were happily married November 14, 1931. They later solemnized their marriage in the Salt Lake LDS Temple on February 6, 1934.

Wanda always had a love of children. She played such an instrumental role in the raising of her younger siblings; it was only natural for her to have many children of her own. She and Bert raised their first three children, Richard, Ronnie and Berteen, in Salt Lake City, Utah. They moved to Roberts, Idaho, and added three more children to their family, Brenda, Bonnie and Barbara. Wanda and Bert loved Roberts, Idaho, and lived the remaining part of their lives together there.

She was a loving mother and grandmother and taught us all the meaning of "there's no place like home." She loved every member of her family and always greeted everyone with a kiss and a hug. Her love of poetry, stories and songs will forever be in our memories of her.

Wanda is survived by her sons, Richard (Kaye) Berrett of Roberts, Idaho, and Ronald (Betty) Berrett of Roberts, Idaho; daughters, Brenda (Douglas) Reynolds of Taylor, Utah, Bonnie (Dennis) Jackson of Roberts, Idaho, and Barbara (David) Trenchak of Idaho Falls, Idaho; son-in-law, Don (Sheila) Kerlee of Cascade, Idaho; sisters, Betty "Jean" (Jack, deceased) Cross of Salt Lake City, Utah, and Ida "Marlene" (Ivan) Flint of Layton, Utah; sister-in-law, Lucille Peterson of Salt Lake City, Utah; 19 grandchildren; 53 great-grandchildren; and 11 great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Burton "Bert" Beach Berrett; parents, Magnus and Ida Peterson; daughter, Berteen Berrett Kerlee; brothers, Elwin and wife Dolly Peterson, Loral Peterson and Lavohr Peterson.

We want to express a special thanks to the caring staff of Lily House Assisted Living Center for their love and support of Wanda over the past few years.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 9, in the Roberts LDS church located at 663 N. 2858 East in Roberts, Idaho.
