Mrs. Deller Owens, 89, one of Wardell's oldest residents, died at Pemiscot County Memorial Hospital last Thursday, November 12, after an illness of several weeks.
Mrs. Owens was born April 5, 1875 in Obion County, Tenn., the daughter of James and Mary E. Smith and at Hornbeak, on February 28, 1897, was married to Marion C. Owens. The family have lived at Wardell since January 3, 1919.
Her husband and two sons, Flavil and Dallas Owens, preceded her in death.
Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon at the Wardell Church of Christ with the Rev. Dave Howell and Rev. Mike Sinapiades officiating. Burial was in Maple Cemetery with Jimmy Osburn Funeral Home in charge.
Survivors include four sons, Brodie, John R. and Joe Owens of Wardell and Oscar Owens of Hayti; three daughters, Mrs. J. Allen Reves of Monett, Ark., Mrs. Virgil Mathis and Mrs. J.R. Welch of Wardell; two brothers, Ode Smith of Hayti and Charlie Smith of Newbern, Tenn.; two sisters, Mrs. Mary Sanford of Obion and Mrs. Maggie Farris of Wardell; 37 grandchildren, 42 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
