He was the son of Ludwick and Mary Catherine Wintrode Study. He married Catherine Rahn. They had five children baptized at Christ Church: Amos, William, Samuel, Mary C. and Ellen. Another son Francis, died at age five. Ludwick was a tailor in Littlestown, PA. He was living in Littlestown as early as 1820.
