Ralph and Gertrude Brown with their children, Ruth and Kenneth.

Gertrude traveled to Eastpoint FL with a friend Miss Josephine Wine when Josie moved there to take up her teaching duties. There Gertrude met all the Browns, but it was Ralph whose interest she captured. A romance developed which led to his moving to the Washington, D.C., area where he was a streetcar conductor for a while. He finally moved to Purcellville VA and married Gertrude.

Wedding as described in THE ENTERPRISE, date unknown:
The home of Mr. D. H. Birdsall, near Purcellville, was the scene of a very pretty wedding at 2:30 o'clock, Thursday afternoon, October 12, 1916, when his youngest daughter, Gertrude Janney, and Ralph B. Brown, were united in marriage by the simple and impressive rites of the Society of Friends, of which both are members.
The bridal couple were attended by Miss Elizabeth P. Styer, of Pennsylvania, maid of honor, and Mr. Thomas M. Brown, of Florida, brother of the groom, as best man.
They entered the parlor to the strains of Mendellsohn's wedding march, which was well rendered by Mrs. Clifton James.
The bride wore white shadow lace over satin messaline and carried bride's roses.
About fifty guests signed the certificate of marriage, according to the custom of Friends. The house was beautifully decorated with autumn foliage. The bride was the recipient of many handsome and useful presents.
After refreshments were served, the bride, handsomely attired in a traveling custume of blue broad cloth, with picture hat to match, accompanied by her husband, boarded the 4:39 eastbound train for an extended bridal tour.
