SAMUEL EDMOND POWER DIES AT HOME IN GIBBS
Was 83 years old, in failing health for several years.
Brashear Mo. May 22, Samuel Edmond Power, 83, died at the family home in Gibbs Saturday afternoon at 2:10. Mr. Power suffered a stroke in September 1940, and had been in failing health since that time.Funeral arrangements are incomplete pending word from relatives and will be announced later. The son of Thomas and Catherine (Clemison) Power, he was born in Hurdland April 18th, 1866. On Aug 19th 1895 he was married to Ms Melinda Belle Vansickle. To this marriage eight children were born. After marriage Mr. Power lived in Elmer Missouri, for seven years then purchased a farm near Old Wilsontown where he lived for forty years. Six years ago he sold his farm and moved to Gibbs where he had since lived. Mr. Power was an active member of the primitive Baptist Church at Mt. Tabor. He is survived by his wife; eight children, Thomas of Ft Madison Iowa, Benjamin Franklin, Mrs. Howard (May) Taylor, August of St Louis, Orpha of the home, Mrs. Merle (Sarah) Conklin of Farmington Ill., Mrs. Murrel (Hettie) Deacon of Atlanta Mo. John of Greensboro N.C., 21 grand children and 23 great grand children and one sister Mrs. Hettie Law of Springfield Mo. The late Mrs. Ella Power-Longwith was also a sister.

Notes from the family bible.
Grandpa Samuel E. Power, was married to the daughter of some of the neighbors, the John Vansickle family. Her name was Mary Eliza. They were married in latter November of 1892. They had one daughter who died, and she herself passed on soon after her daughter, dying 20 months after her marriage, of tuberculosis.
Then on August 19, 1895, he and Malinda Belle Vansickle were married. She is a sister of his first wife.
