Henry Stansbury (1807-1881) lived on a farm about 1/4 mile outside of Hampstead, MD (see text of auction poster below). He inherited 1/8 of his father, Micajah Stansbury's, property. His father's will was probated in Carroll County, MD, on August 2, 1858.

He married Sophia Phillips of Manchester, MD (the next town over from Hampstead in Carroll County, MD). They had eight children, and several of the boys fought for the Union Army. Henry Stansbury signed a Loyalty Oath to the United States in July 1863.

In 1882, following Henry's death, the family farm outside Hampstead was sold by auction by Henry's sons Whitfield and Benjamin F. Stansbury, who were his executors. The text of the auction poster follows:

"Public Sale! Saturday, Nov. 4. By virtue of an order from the Orphan 's Court of Carroll County sitting as a Court of Equity the undersigned executors of Henry Stansbury, late of Carroll County, deceased, will offer at Public Sale the following real estate property of said deceased, on the premise at 1 o'clock pm on Saturday, the 4th day of November, 1882, to wit: The Homestead Farm, situated near the village of Hampstead, in Hampstead District, Carroll County, Md, about one-half mile from Baltimore & Hanover Railroad, containing 150 acres of Land, more or less, about 40 acres of which is in Good Timber. The improvements are a Good Log Weatherboarded Dwelling House, Barn, Wash House, Hog Pen, etc. A never failing Spring of Good Water near the Dwelling, and a Regular Stream of Water running through the centre of the Farm. There is also a Large Apple Orchard of Choice Fruit in good bearing condition, and a variety of other choice fruits. Also at the same time and place will be offered another Tract of Land contiguous to said Homestead, situated one-fourth of a mile from Hampstead containing 24 5/8 acres more or less, which is Well Watered. Also, another Lot of Land adjoining Lot No. 2 situated still nearer the Village of Hampstead, and containing 18 5/8 Acres of Land, more or less, with a good Spring of never failing Water on the same. Also a tract situated near Thomas Gorsuch's mill, containing about 5 3/8 acres of land, all in Good Timber. Terms of Sale--One-third of the purchase money to be paid on the day of the sale or the ratification thereof, one-third in one year from the date of sale, and one-third in two years from the date of sale, the purchasers giving their notes with approved security, bearing interest from the day of sale. Also, at the same time and place will be offered about 50 barrels of CORN, and about 10 tons of Good Mixed Hay, the terms of which will be made known on the day of the sale. This farm is called Stansbury Farm #2 on the Maryland Historical Trust's Historic Site Survey, and it is located on north side of Shiloh Road West of Hampstead. This location corresponds to the location marked H. Stansbury on the 1862 Martinet Map of the Hampstead area of Carroll County.
