Smitha Hilburn Qualls (1829-1919), daughter of Richard Hilburn (1793-1867), and Elizabeth Campbell Hilburn (1795-1836).

This is "Smithie" Qualls, grandmother of Charlie B. Qualls. Married to Riley Qualls in the year 1846, she and her husband probably did more than anybody to propagate the Qualls name. They had seven children - all of them sons. And from those seven sons, she had no less than 14 grandsons - all with the last name "QUALLS". Let's just say the family tree really took root after her and Riley got done "being fruitful and multiplying!"

Smitha (proper southern pronunciation: "Smithie") was born 32 years before Abraham Lincoln became president and she died 16 years after the Wright Brothers' first flight. She managed to live for 90 years on this Earth without Social Security or a government run health care system.

Her story, and this photo, are pure treasure!
