The daughter of Heinrich W. "Henry" Johnes and Friederike "Rachael" Schaper, Caroline was baptized "Engle Caroline Johns" on 08 Nov 1863 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in St. Louis, Missouri. Her sponsors were Engle Woehler and Caroline Wlacke. [All spellings taken from church records.]

Caroline married John Kinder on 19 Apr 1883 in Calhoun County, Illinois.

Caroline was a homemaker, and John was a prominent farmer in the Batchtown area of Calhoun County. They were the parents of 10 children.

Caroline died at her home in Batchtown following a long illness. At the time of her death, she was 88 years and 9 months old. She was survived by 4 daughters, Lizzie Brodbeck and Nora Beisman of Batchtown, Emma Halemeyer of Brussels, and Freda Kinder of Louisiana, Missouri; 1 son, Henry Kinder of Brussels; and 1 sister, Lizzie Franke.

In addition to her parents, Caroline was preceded in death by her husband, John; 1 daughter, Dinah Kinder; and 3 sons, William, Johnie and Carl Kinder. The 4 children who preceded her all died in infancy or very early childhood.

Visitation was held at the Imming Funeral Home in Brussels. Funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m. on 11 Apr 1952 at St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Brussels. Caroline was buried next to her husband, John, who passed away in 1950.
