On July 10, 2008, Lawrence "Larry" Wilson Bogle, 62, of Lynchburg, passed from death into life.

We grieve our loss at his passing, but rejoice that he fought the fight and finished the course, safe in the arms of our blessed Lord.

He was the beloved husband of Judee Bogle; father to Lea Hirtz and her husband, Brad, Wendy Turner and her husband, Melvin, and Amy Houser and her husband, Jamie; and "Pa" to Zachary and Jacob Hirtz, April Turner, Josh Bogle, Emilee and Evan Houser.

He was born July 22, 1945, in Rural Retreat, a son of Fred and Ruth Bogle, who preceded him in death. Also preceding him in death are brothers, Freddie-Keith, Dwight, and Gale Bogle; and sister, Kay McFadden.

Surviving siblings are Evelyn Larimer and her husband, Norman, of Richmond, Emory Bogle of Richmond, Ronald Bogle and his wife, Mary Jo, of Minneapolis, Minnesota, and Wendell and his wife, Judy Bogle, of Lynchburg.

He proudly served our country for 3 years in the United States Air Force. He retired from BandW NNFD with 30 years of service and was employed at Advance Auto Parts.

Larry never met a stranger and would run into someone he knew wherever he went. He loved all sports, especially Virginia Tech football, and supported as often as he could, "The Greene Machine" baseball team of Greene County, for which his grandson, Jacob, plays.

He was a faithful member of Providence United Methodist Church, serving in many ways for 48 years. He enjoyed planting his garden and sharing it. If he could do something for you, he would. Bluegrass music was his favorite.

Special thanks to the nursing staff in the Neuro Step Down unit at LGH and to those in Oncology who cared for him and to those in Hospice care.

A funeral service was conducted Monday, July 14, 2008, at Providence United Methodist Church with Pastor Paul F. Gillespie and the Reverend Ron Litten officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to Providence United Methodist Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 615, Rustburg, VA 24588; or Gideons International, P.O. Box 4212, Lynchburg, VA 24502. Ecclesiastes 12:7, Isaiah 55:12.

Tharp Funeral Home and Crematory, Lynchburg, is assisted the family.

When you think of Larry, smile, because that's the way he would want it.
