His name is often mispelled as Omari but the correct spelling is Omri, after a biblical king. He was the third of eight known children born to Rachel Harrell and James Long. Omri married Lydia Judd on 12 Jan 1884 and they had three children. Lydia died following the birth of her last child and the family subsequently disentergrated.

The two older girls went to live with their Great Aunt and Uncle who had also raised their mother. The newborn boy went to Omri's parents and accompanied them when they moved to western Iowa.

Omri apparently moved around during the next 25 years, temporary living in the county of his parents and with his son in Kansas in the 1910 census then back to parents area by 1915. He finally returning to live in Lucas County between 1915 and 1920. He resided with his oldest daughter by 1930 and, reportedly, until his death.
