Lydia was the daughter of Catherine Bolick and Elijah Judd. Her mother passed away within days after her birth and Catherine's sister, Rachel, cared for the little waif. The economic and/or emotional stress placed upon the father (he had four other motherless children to care for) was surely a hardship. Regardless of reason, little Lydia was adopted into the home of Rachel and her husband Henry Judd (who was brother to Elijah).

Lydia accompanied her Aunt Rachel and Uncle Henry when they relocated to Lucas County in the 1870s. There, she met and married Omri T. Long on 12 Jan 1884. They had three children: Lydia, Florence and Vincent. Much like her mother, Lydia succombed to death within days after the birth of her last child.
