William Francis Danielly, 70-year-old retired druggist, passed away about 2:30 Sunday morning, Oct. 6, at his home on Chestnut Street in Roanoke following a very brief illness. While he had been in declining health for several years, his death came unexpectedly.
Mr. Danielly for more than 35 years was a popular leader in the business and civic life of Roanoke. where he operated the Danielly Drug Co. To his many friends he was known as Billy.
A native of Chambers County, he was graduated from high school in LaFayette. He completed a pharmacy course at the Max Morris School in Macon, Ga., and worked for a brief time in the two LaFayette drug stores before coming to Roanoke in 1909 to be associated with Dr. Floyd in the drug business. Danielly Drug Co. came into being when he bought out Dr. Floyd in 1910. He was married to Miss Ida Wright in 1911.
Mr. Danielly sold out his business here in 1946 when it became necessary for him to lighten his work load, but he continued to work as a pharmacist in various places where needed Fayette, Gadsden, Anniston, Columbus, Alexander City, and Pell City before retiring for good in January 1955. After a brief residence in Clearwater, Fla., he and Mrs. Danielly returned home to Roanoke recently.
Surviving Mr. Danielly are his wife; one son, Joe Danielly of Birmingham; one daughter, Mrs. Lewis Dunn of Roanoke; two grandchildren; and one sister, Mrs. Whit Lane of Roanoke.
Funeral services were conducted from the chapel of Quattlebaums Funeral Home at three o'clock Monday afternoon by his pastor, the Rev. Henry Gary, asisted by Dr. Austin Staples. Interment was in Cedarwood Cemetery.
