MARTIN A. GOOKIN
Martin A. Gookin was born in Lucas County September 12, 1877 and spent his entire life there except for a few weeks in Albia before he passed away at the Monroe County Hospital June 25, 1965.
In early life he farmed and then moved to Russell where he worked at the lumber yard and elevator for Eikenberry & Co., and later for Arnold Brothers for about twenty-seven years. He will be remembered by his friends and neighbors for his fine gardens and flowers.
Those surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Eva Long of Albia; Mrs. Velma Jones of Cedar Falls and two sons, Milo of Chariton and Earl of Russell; a brother, Tarvin Gookin of Chariton and two sisters, Mrs. Belle Rasmus of Chariton and Mrs. Archie McCullough of Chicago, Ill.
Funeral services were held Monday, June 28, 1965 at 2 p.m. at the Woodman Funeral Home. The Rev. Dale Powell officiated and burial was in the Russell Cemetery.
