The son of William and Fanny (Webb) Tyrrell. He came to Canada in 1833. He moved to New York for awhile, returning to Canada and marrying Mary Le Groux on August 20, 1840 in Angelican St Lawrence, Quebec.
They eventually settled in Bear Creek, Wisconsin. They had
13 children: Adelaide, George, Charles, Martha, Mary Ann, Solomon, Electa, John Jr, Libbie, Carrie, Horace, Mariah and Elucion.
His wife Mary died in 1890 and he remarried Sarah Jaslin on February 6, 1894.
