U.S. Air Force (Ret.).
His military service included overseas assignments in Japan and Hawaii that included flight instruction and installation management. He was a 1940 graduate of Virginia Polytechnic Institute and received post graduate training in electronics engineering at the Air Force Institute of Technology in Dayton. He retired from the military in 1961 and worked for private firms in defense communications, and later served as Chief Electronics Engineer for the U.S. Coast Guard. He received numerous decorations and commendations throughout his career that included the Legion of Merit and the Air Force Commendation Medal.
Survivors include his wife, Audrey Weibel Burch, whom he married on December 31, 1943 in San Antonio, TX; children and their spouses, Colin F. & Sandy Burch III of NOrth Carolina, John S. & Susan Burch of Puerto Rico, William M. & Patricia Burch of Virginia, Rebecca B. & Ronald Anzelone of Virginia, Barbara A. Burch of Tennessee; his sister, Harriett B. Duke of Maryland; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Colin Foote Burch & Harriett Dent Burch, and brother, Walter D. Burch.
Interment in the Church graveyard followed funeral services conducted Monday, June 23, 2008.
