James Coleman Brown, Jr.

James Coleman Brown Jr., 84, of Hildebran, N.C. died at Burke County Hospice, Shytle House, on Wednesday, June 24, 2009.
Born in Catawba County, he was the son of the late James and Ruby Gibson Brown.
He was a lifetime active member of Westview United Methodist Church. He held many offices, including church treasurer, for 43 years. He was a World War II veteran and served with the Air Force in the South Pacific as a staff sergeant. He finished Clevenger's Business College and attended Lenoir-Rhyne College and retired as manager of the Belk Catawba Mall Store after 36 years of service. He held a life membership in the American Legion Post No. 48, VFW, Hickory Moose Lodge and was a member of the Hickory Exchange Club for many years.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Jacksie Yount Brown; daughter, Mary Lail and her husband, Lynn, of Valdese; son, Stephen W. Brown and his wife, Debra, of Icard; brother, Kenneth W. Brown and his wife, Mickie, of Hickory; four grandchildren, Quentin Lail and his wife, Shelly, Jessica Lail, Khristian Gregor and Jon Hughes; three great-granddaughters, Catelyn and Allison Lail and Kelsey Gregor; and a number of nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, M/Gyn Sgt. Edward T. "Tom" Brown and Jason B. Brown.
The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Westview United Methodist Church with the Rev. Charlene Hutchings officiating. The body will be placed in the church from 10:30 to 11 a.m.
Entombment will be at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens with military honors conducted by American Legion Post No. 48.
