Jacksie Cooke Yount Brown died Friday, June 7, 2013, at Burke Hospice. She was
the daughter of the late Mary C. Yount and Harvey M. Yount Sr.. She was born in
Edgecombe County March 24, 1926
Jacksie was a member of Westview United Methodist Church, where she served as
financial secretary for 43 years. a Sunday school teacher for more than 50 years, a
member of the United Methodist Women and served in many other offices for her
church.
She retired from Wachovia Bank in Hildebran, after 18 years. She was a member of
the Women of the Hickory Moose Chapter 996 since 1976. She was also a member
of the Hickory Garden Club.
She was preceded in death, in addition to her parents, by her husband of 63 years,
James C. Brown Jr.; one brother, Harvey M. Yount Jr; two sisters, Margie Miller and
husband, Donald and Kathleen Y. Bowman and husband, Ernest; three brothers-in-
law, Jason B. Brown and wife, Lois, Kenneth W. Brown and Thomas E. Brown and
wife, Lee.
She is survived by a daughter, Mary B. Lail and husband, Lynn, of Valdese; a son,
Stephen W. Brown and wife, Debra, of Icard; four grandchildren, Quentin Lail and
wife, Shelly, of Valdese, Jessica Lail, of Valdese, Khristian Gregor, of Hildebran and
Jon Hughes of Icard; four great-grandchildren, Allison and Catelyn Lail, Kelsey
Gregor and Trey Short; two sisters-in-law, Katherine M Yount and Mickie G. Brown;
a number of nieces and nephews; cousins, Lee Yount and wife, Cindy and Jim
Yount and wife, Vickie; and two house companions, Julius and Tipper.
The family will receive at Hickory Funeral Home,1031 11th Ave. Blvd, S,E,, Hickory,
NC this evening (Sunday June 9), from 6:30 to 8 p.m. The service will be held at West-
view United Methodist Church, 1309 1st Ave. S.W., Hickory, NC Monday, June 10, at
2 p.m. with the Rev. Debra Short officiating.
Pallbearers will be Jim Yount, Todd Alexander, Doug Moore, Johnny Spencer, Scott
Jeffries and Danny Beam. Honorary pallbearers will be David Crawley and Tom
Thornburg.
The interment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery immediately following the service.
