Madison Turpin, an old settler of Mt. Zion Township, dropped dead at his home two miles northwest of Mt. Zion Monday about twenty minutes after he had finished a hearty dinner. He was one of the oldest settlers in this part of the country and was about 75 years of age. He owned a farm of 2000 acres and was considered a wealthy man. He leaves eight children. Those living in this county are Scott, Bud, Robert and Abraham Turpin and Mrs. Lou Kinser. He has two children in Kansas. DECATUR SATURDAY HERALD OCTOBER 23, 1886

Madison and Virlinda had five children: Amanda Harriet, Edmund, Robert T., Abraham and Andrew Jackson Turpin.
