Earl R. Jolley, 91, of Tropic, Utah, passed away Feb 17, 1998, in Panguitch, Utah.
He was born Feb 2, 1907, in Tropic, Utah, to Henry A. Jr. and Mable Rappleye Jolley. Earl lived all his life in Tropic. He Married Edith Brown, of Provo, Utah, in the Salt Lake Temple, April 22, 1931. Edith passed away July 26, 1988. He married Rachel Ahlstrom in the St. George Temple in April 1989. Earl was active in the LDS Church serving as member of the bishopric, stake high council, temple ordinance worker, Sunday School president and the ward choir. He was Scout Master, an Eagle Scout, and received the Silver Beaver award.
He served as mayor of Tropic and for a period of time as town marshal. He served as water master and member of various irrigation company committees as well as farming and grazing committees. He was elected as a Garfield County commissioner. He was also a member of Bryce Lions Club and served a term as president. He was a rancher, farmer and had been employed by the forest service.
Earl is survived by his wife, Rachel; two children, Helen (Dar) Smith, St. George; Dr. Henry (LaVerne) Jolley, Beaver; sister, Ilene Penrod Lowder, Springville; step-son, Doug (Vickie) Ahlstrom, Tropic; 12 grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; one step-great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by his wife, Edith; parents; brothers and sisters: Layton, Virgil, Clive, Theo, Freeda, Grant, Ila and Melvin; grandson, David Hardy Smith; great-grandson, Dillion Parenti.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 21, 1998, at 1 p.m. in the Tropic LDS Ward Chapel where friends may call Saturday from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Burial will be in the Tropic Cemetery. Funeral Directors, Neal S. Magleby & Sons Mortuary, Richfield, UT.
