Solomon was a son of Joel Cornelius and Mary "Polly" Easley of Blount County, Alabama. He married Margaret Jane Durham February 7, 1861 in Blount County. After Margaret's death, he married the widow Mary Salome Barnes Foreman February 11, 1909 in Beckham County Oklahoma.

Children of Solomon Cornelius and Margaret Jane Durham are:Thomas Meredith, Samantha A., Mary Viola, Artie Lela, Amma Mae, John Daniel, Elbert, and Samuel (the latter two died very young and probably in Texas).

During the Civil War he served in Company I, 49th Alabama Regiment. He enlisted as 4th Corporal, was elected 1st Sergeant in 1862 at Corinth, Mississippi, was captured at Port Hudson Louisiana and paroled a few days later.

UNCLE SOL CORNELIUS DEAD Uncle Sol Cornelius died about 10 o;clock last Saturday night, at his home on South 7th Street of Brights disease. His remains were taken to the Navajo cemetery, in Jackson county, and laid to rest Monday. Mr. Cornelius was 86 years of age at the time of his death. He was an old and respected citizen of this part of the country; He leaves an aged compamion, several children and other relatives, and many friends to mourn his demise.
