M. Myrtie HAND, 77, 300 E. Fourth St., Apt. 2A, died at 8:40 a.m. Saturday at Life Care Center, Rochester, following a short illness.
Born near Sturgis, Mich., to Ivan and Katherine GARLAND BARKMAN, she married Clarence L. "Bud" HAND Nov. 2, 1968, in Louisville, Ky. He died Oct. 15, 1984.
Mrs. Hand came to Rochester from Indianapolis and Beech Grove in 1974. She worked as a secretary and in sales at the former Bounsall Shoe Store, Rochester. She was a graduate of Lima High School, Howe, International Beauty College, Central and Consolidated Business College, Tech Public Speaking and Sales and Personality Clinic, all of Indianapolis, and Indiana College of Auctioneering. She was a past member of Indiana Professional Women and Indiana Insurance Women of Indianapolis. She was a certified youth bowling instructor and a member of the Swingin Dudes Square and Round Dance Club, Rochester, and First Christian Church. She was a lifetime member of Indiana Dancers Association and Fulton County Historical Society.
Survivors include one sister, Ella WALLACE, Rochester; five nieces, Barb UPP and Kathy ADAMS, both of Rochester, Karen Sue COMBS, Auburn, Kan., Alta KANE and Glenna MICHIELSEN, both of Burr Oak, Mich.; four nephews, Clifton WALLACE, Washington, Charles WALLACE, Kirklin, Ivan BARKMAN, Burr Oak, Mich., and John STOLLEY, Topeka, Kan. Several great-nieces and great-nephews, great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews, cousins, sisters-in-law and a host of friends also survive.
Preceding in death with her husband were her parents, two sisters, one brother, one nephew and one great-nephew.
Services are at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday at Foster & Good Funeral Home, Rochester, with Rev. Woody SLADE officiating. Burial will be at Rochester IOOF Cemetery. Visitation is 4-8 p.m. today at the funeral home and one hour prior to services. Memorials may be made to Friends of the Fulton County Public Library.
