County oldest Woman Died Sunday Following Protracted Illness At Home At battle - Funeral And Burial Monday
Following a Protracted illness of infirmities incident to age and complication following an accident several months ago. Mrs. Mary Kays, age ninety-six years died at her home at Battle at an early hour Sunday morning, February 6, 1927.
Deceased was a native of this county and spent the greater positron of her long and useful life in the county. She was born near Battle on November 27, 1831. being a members of one of the pioneer families of the county.
Surviving Mrs. Kays are the following children: A. V. Kays, Mackville: Lafe Kays. Minler, Ill: Mrs. E. G. Cookey, Mrs. E. L. Colvis and Mrs. J. A. Bottom of this city, Twenty-seven grand-children and eleven great-grand-children also survive. Her husband, the late D. T. Quays, died on August 3, 1911.
The funeral services, conducted by the rev. C. E. Smith, pastor of the Springfield Christian church, was held at Battle at 2 o'clock Monday afternoon and burial was in the family cemetery on the Kay's home place.
Mr. Kays fell at her home early last year and sustained a fractured hip, from which injury she never fully recovered and which is believed to have contributed to her death. She had enjoyed unusual health and was very active for one her age prior to the accident. She had retained all her facility to a marked degree and had the distinction of being the county oldest inhabitant.
