Julian grew up on his family farm in North Carolina. In the 1870 Census he was working on the Ball family farm in Posey, Indiana. This is the same place that his brother, Richard H, was living. His older sister Delia was living on another farm in the area also. There he met Emma Ball, the cousin of the owner of the farm. They were married in 1874. Their first three children, Lulah, Hartsell and Everett were born in Rush County. In the 1880 Census Julian had moved his young family to Moultrie County, Illinois. They moved later to Wilson County, Kansas where the next three children, Gracie, Ovid and Merrill were born. Ovid died in infancy. In the 1890s, they moved to Hyde Park, Utah near friends from Kansas named Ashcraft and eventually bought a farm north of Preston, Idaho in an area known as Poverty Flats. This is where they were living for the 1900 Census. Emma and 5 of his 6 living children were living there also. Their youngest child, a son named Ertie, was born there. Julian died in 1902 and Emma followed her two oldest sons, Hartsell and Everett to Rupert, Idaho in 1905 when they homesteaded land opened up by the Minidoka dam project. She died in Rupert in 1941.
