Husband of Alice Susan HATCH (1918-2011)

Harold Vaughn TROUT was born 19 Aug 1914 on the family hay ranch on Running Creek, 6 miles south of Elizabeth, Elbert, CO, the son of Korah Vaughn "Kode" TROUT (1877-1965) and Nancy Olive ANDERSON (1881-1957). In 1918, the family moved west to Fort Duchesne, Uintah, UT, but after failing to find adequate water for ranching operations, moved in 1919 to Rogers Mesa near Hotchkiss, Delta, CO. The following year brought another move, this time to Carbondale, Garfield, CO, where Kode settled in and developed a thriving hay ranch. In 1923, the family moved again, staying for various periods of time in Escondido, San Diego County, CA; Lebanon, Linn, OR; Martinsville, Clark, IL; and then finally returning to the Carbondale, Garfield, CO ranch in 1926, where Harold helped on the ranch and grew to manhood. Ranch chores were laid aside whenever possible for fishing trips up the Crystal River. Kode retired in 1935, and the family moved next to Littleton, Arapahoe, CO, where Harold worked in filling stations and various other jobs until starting his career at Stevens Dodge & Plymouth, Main Street, Littleton, CO; and then next at Hohen Chevrolet, 3300 South Broadway, Englewood, CO, which was later bought out by Burt Chevrolet in 1939.

On 27 Aug 1939, Harold Vaughn TROUT and Alice Susan HATCH married at the Methodist Church, 146 Nevada Street, Littleton, Arapahoe, CO. The young couple honeymooned in Colorado Springs, Royal Gorge, Black Canyon, and points on Western Slope in their 1931 Sport Coupe Chevrolet.

With the coming of World War II, Harold worked first at the Remington Arms Plant in Denver making .50 cal ammunition, then transferred to the Army Air Corps facility at Hill Field, Utah (Ogden Air Services Technical Command) repairing shot up aircraft engines from the Pacific theater.

After the War, Harold began a new job as Assistant Parts Manager, Luby Chevrolet, and then in 1950 changed jobs to American Coleman making Air Force towing tractors, rotary snow plows, four-wheel drive conversion units, and similar heavy equipment. Harold retired in 1980 after 30-years of outstanding service with American Coleman, spending many of those years as the Material Control Manager for all manufacturing operations.

Harold loved the mountains, fly fishing, camping, and great cross-country vacations. He was a skilled auto mechanic and carpenter and also built the additions on the family home. Harold was the loving father of three sons, Vaughn, Craig, and Mark; 11 grandchildren; and numerous great grandchildren. Harold is survived by his loving wife, Alice, who is a retired registered nurse, DAR volunteer, and is active in church life.

Harold V. Trout was a good and honest man who feared God and lived his life well.
