Joachim Elder was the oldest son of Aloysius Elder and Elizabeth Mills. He married Mary Hughes, the daughter of James and Elizabeth Hughes, on 10/9/1825. He was a property & landowner in Emmitsburg and served the community for many years as Post Master. The couple had four children; James Aloysius, Marcellus, William Vincent and Mary Elder. At the death of his wife, he then married Mary Ann Beachez. (No children)
