Mrs. Edmond Bruso
Ethel T. Bruso, Labor Activist
Mrs. Edmond Bruso of 206 Beech St., the former Ethel Thomas, well-known for her state and local labor council activities and long-time Democrat, died Saturday at Putnam Memorial Hospital after a long illness. She was 54 years old.
Mrs. Bruso was a recording secretary of the State Labor Council at the time of her death and had been delegate to conventions many times. She had been a diligent worker on the Bennington County Labor Council and was one of its first members. One of the functions of the BCLC was helping out in the welfare of the needy at holiday time.
A staunch Democrat, she could always be relied on to do her share of campaigning and often more. She had served on many committees in the party.
She was head of the local union at Thomson Mfg. Co., International Ladies Garment Workers Union (ILGWU).
Born in North Bennington Oct. 14, 1914, she was the daughter of Barlow and Cora (Tifft) Thomas and had received her education in the North Bennington schools. She was married to Mr. Bruso on Feb 2, 1935 in Bennington.
For some time she had been employed at Thomson Mfg. Co. In earlier years she was at the old E-Z Mills. Her affiliations had also included long-time membership in the Fraternal Order of Eagles 1061 Auxilliary.
In her younger years she had enjoyed bowling.
Survivors besides her husband are one daughter, Mrs. Robert (Patricia) Cross of Shaftsbury; two sons, Edmund J. Bruso of Merritt Island, Fla., and William F. Bruso of Springfield, Vt.; four grandsons; four brothers, Kenneth Thomas of Schenectady, N.Y.; Alber, LeRoy and Barlow Thomas, all of Bennington; nieces, nephews and cousins.
The funeral will be held at Mahar & Son Funeral Home Tuesday at 9:30 am with a prayer and in St. Francis de Sales Church at 10, where a Requiem High Mass will be offered. Mrs. Bruso was a member of this church.
Calling hours at the funeral home are today from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm when the family will be in attendance. Recitation of the Rosary will be tonight at 8:30.
Burial will be in the family lot in Grandview Cemetery, North Bennington.
