She was raised in Grand Rapids and then Seattle. She attended the Central School in Seattle and Broadway High School. She became an office worker. When she was 20 years old she married her boss in the office, James Merritt.

She and James had a son, James Merritt, Jr. They first lived on Lake Washington, and then bought a home in Ballard.

She and her husband were active in the Ballard Masonic Lodge.

When her son was twelve, she left her husband and divorced him and later married George Salmon. They moved to California for a time and then returned.

She and James were close with each other and friends and relatives, as before. James raised their son, but there was a lot of contact.

She earned a certificate from the Mayor of Seattle for volunteer office work at the Port of Seattle, Pier 91 during World War II years.

She was active in the Eastern Star masonic organization.

She died of intestinal cancer.
