Wayne A. Chowning was a life-long resident of De Soto, served as Mayor 2 terms from 1949 to 1953. He also served 18 consecutive years on the DeSoto Independent School District's Board of Trustees from 1941 to 1959. He was secretary of the school board a portion of that time
He was born Apr. 30,1907 in DeSoto, the son of the last Mr. and Mrs. T.J. Chowning. He had been associated with Sinclair Refining Company for 42 years and was a commission agent for Sinclair at the time of his death.
Chowning was a member of the De Soto Church of Christ and De Soto Lions Club.
He married Jeannie Simms Apr. 6, 1929 in De Soto.
