Noma Ann Byrum of Lancaster, Texas was born December 22, 1915 in DeSoto, Texas to Thomas Jefferson and Millie Fleetie (Cheshier) Chowning. She passed from this life into her eternal home on August 14, 2013.
Noma owned and operated Byrum Funeral Home in Lancaster since 1950. She spent her life serving her family, friends, church and community. She was a charter member of the Lancaster Business and Professional Women's Club and the Lancaster Garden Club. She was active in PTA while her children were in Lancaster schools. Noma was especially excited when she was awarded the "Community Builder Award" from the Masonic Grand Lodge of Texas on May 28, 2002.
Noma was baptized into Christ as a young girl and was a faithful child of God. She was a member of the Brown Street Church of Christ in Waxahachie. She was totally devoted to all of her brothers and sisters in Christ throughout her lifetime. Now she will receive all the blessings that she has been promised by her heavenly Father.
Noma was preceded in death by her husband Willfred Esque Byrum on July 19, 1993. She was also preceded in death by her parents; brothers Lynn, Frelan, Elton, Wayne & Vernon Chowning; sisters Maggie Pickard & Selma Gallagher. She is survived by son Berdon Byrum & wife Connie; granddaughter Stephanie Jones & husband Joe, and children Dustin, Zachary & Cody; grandson Shawn Byrum and children Ally and Erin; Also surviving are her daughter Sandra Terry & husband Jack; Granny's granddaughter Kathy Lemmond & husband Randy and children Jeff Lemmond & wife Kacy and their children Madison, Taylor and Jack who filled Granny B's life with love and excitement on a daily basis, Lee Lemmond & girlfriend Annie Crow, Katie Mathes & husband Dustin, Toni Vincent & husband Paul and children Thomas, Jacob, & Zachary; Granny's grandson Mark Terry & wife Shelly, and children John Terry & girlfriend Autumn Daniel, Rebecca Terry, Taylor Dolaway, Shree Dolaway and children Ethan & Aeva; and the Douglas family Dickie, Rita, Amie, Scott & wife Laurie, their children Lauren, Reagan & Dylann
Granny "B" is also survived by sisters-in-law Margaret Chowning and Nell Phillips; many nieces, nephews and cousins from the Chowning, Cheshier, and Byrum families; the Jack Lowrey family; the Roben Hanes family; Eunice Sandling, the Don Norrell family, Ike Craddock; the Wayne Roberts family; the Daugherty family (especially her "secret grandchildren" Colton & Taylor from Beltline @ Main Church of Christ); the Pierces, Burgins, Kokorudas, Stewarts, Baileys, Medfords, Chambers; everyone in her church family; and numerous other wonderful friends who have also made her life on this earth meaningful and happy for all of her ninety seven plus years. Special thanks to her doctors, Bill Christensen, Don Phillips and Charles Waldrop who have always been there when she needed them. Bristol Hospice of Waxahachie provided comfort during her last days.
