Woman, 80, Ends life by Hanging

Mrs. Farha Badwey, aged 80, ended her own life some times between 11:45 adn 12:15 o'clock today by hanging herself in her bedroom on the second floor of her home at 3973 sixth ave.

Mrs. Badwey, who was a widow and the mother of Elias Badwey, who conducts a confectionary store at that address, had been in poor health and under medical care for seven years.

It was not her first attempt at self-destruction. She had made similar attempts at Christmas and again last night, but was frustrated on these occasions.

Today when there was no one about she used the heavy string of her bathrobe, tied it about her neck, and to the bar of the bedstead, then succeeded in strangling herself, her lifeless body being found shortly afterwards.

The police were apprised and Officer W.T. Stephens made an investigation. The coroner also was appraised.

She was born at Mount Lebanon, Syria, in 1857 and came to Altoona in 1905. Her husband, Maroos, died seventeen years ago. Surviving is a son, Elias, at whose home she died, and a son John, in Syria. She was a member of the St. George Syrian Orthodox Church.
