Mazie was born to Robert Angus Alexander, and Annie Mariah Dobson , May 21, 1920, her family lived in Altonah which used to be 'Alexandria', named after the six original homesteaders, her uncles and father. She was there until she was around 12 years of age and then moved from Altonah to Montwell. Her siblings were; Son Alexander, Robert Randolph Alexander, Annie Orminnie Alexander Crapo, Wanda LaMar Alexander Rich, Alden Angus Alexander, Amanda Catherine Alexander,Clarence Elmo Alexander, Verda Charlotte Alexander Reynolds Blatnik, Theo A Alexander, Milton Delemore Alexander, and Parley Alexander. She was the eleventh of Twelve children.

She married John Gilbert Nielson Feb 13 1936 in the Salt Lake Temple in Salt Lake City, Utah. They are the parents of ten children. Two daughters who are deceased; Lorna Dee Nielson Anderton and Natalie Nielson MacNeille, Nelson.

Mazie was a loving, devoted wife and mother, she sacrificed much for her family. She reached out in kindness to others too.
Mazie lived until November 29, 2007 and passed away as a result of heart problems in Cedar City, Iron, Utah. She was buried by John Gilbert Nielson. her husband on December 4, 2007 in the Cedarview Cemetery.
