Notes written by his granddaughter, Edna Eugenia (Wood) House.

The wedding of John Fielden and Sarah "Sallie" Howard Coats took place in the home of Great-Aunt Polly Ann (Coats) Hughes, near Simmons, Missouri. John Fielden, living at Success, Missouri, brougnt his sister Jane Fielden to be at the wedding. Jane Coats, Sarah's sister, was also at the wedding.

After the wedding, John and Sarah went home to Success to Great-Grandfather Dempsey's taking both Great-Aunt Janes home with them. John and Sallie lived in the house with Dempsey and Sarah Turner Fielden. John was going to help Dempsey put in a spring crop, as Dempsey wasn't feeling well. They made their first crop there. Was still there when Great-Grandfather Dempsey was killed.

Grandpa John Fielden fought in the civil war in Missouri. Received his first pension check of $70.00. Grandpa died before the second check came. Grandma Sarah Fielden took part of the first $70.00 to buy a tombstone for Grandpa John Fielden's grave. (They are both buried in the Union grave yard.)

John and Sarah Howard "Sallie" Coats Fielden homesteaded a farm where my Mother, Iva Candes Wood, grew up, and is a very special place in my heart. They were close to Oak Grove School and Church. We could see the school in winter, when leaves were down. A creek run between the school and Grandpa John's home. The creek really got wild in big rains.

Grandpa John died when I was 4 years old. Grandma Sallie died when I was 6. We spent many days there when I was a child. Also visited there a lot in the next 2 years since Aunt Sarah had lost so much of her family by death, and still lived on John and Sallie's farm.
