JOHN HESS DIES AT 88

John Hess, 88, of 236 E. Spruce St. Died in a Missoula rest home (Hillside Manor Nursing Home) Thursday night.

Mr. Hess was born in Wisconsin on Sept 24, 1881. He was employed by the Anaconda Co. for several years and retired in 1956. He is survived by several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday in the Geraghty Chapel with the Rev. David J. Graff officiating. Burial will be in Missoula Cemetery.


John was born in Nelson, WI to Emil and Christiane (Reinhardt) Hess. He was buried by Geraghty Funeral Home of Missoula in the Missoula Cemetery. John lived with brother,William, in Tappen, N. Dakota when his father died in 1911. Then later he lived in Montana. He was a teamster for a lumber company and died of generalized arterioschlerosis in a nursing home in Missoula at age 88. His death informant was "personal papers".

His World War I Draft card which was filled out Sept 7, 1918, listed John as tall and thin with dark brown hair and brown eyes. He listed his birth date as Sept 14, 1880 and his next of kin as sister, Settie Hartman of Alma, WI. He was age 37 and worked as a teamster for Libby Lumber Company.
