21 Aug 1909: Ira O. Gerberich, the drayman, died at 8:30 o'clock on Friday evening at his home, on East Cumberland Street, Hebron, from Bright's disease and complications, following an illness extending over a period of many months. On a number of occasions, the condition of the sufferer was regarded as most critical but he rallied and grew stronger, but the improvement proved only for a short time and was followed by a relapse, which left the patient in a greatly weakened condition. Mr. Gerberich was 41 years old and is survived by his wife and two daughters, Beatrice May and Mary. Miss Lydia Gerberich, of this city, is a sister. He was a member of the Moravian church and several secret organizations, including the Red Men. For many years in the employ of David Rebstock, now of Bethlehem, as a driver of one of his transfers, "Sheriff" Gerberich became well and widely known. Of a cherry disposition, he made friends rapidly and was probably one of the best-known men about the city during his employment in the transfer business. Later he established and maintained a drayage business, which was continued under his name throughout his long illness. His death is a matter of sincere regret on the part of a large number of friends. [Lebanon Daily News]
