SLOAN, Iowa - Floyd Funkhouser, 84, of Sloan died Monday, May 1, 1989, in Pleasant View Nursing Home in Whiting. Services will be at 10:30 Wednesday in the Sloan First Christian Church with the Rev. Emery Killian officiating. Burial will be in Harrison Cemetery, near Whiting. Visitation will begin at 10:30 a.m. today in the Wood Funeral Home in Sloan. Mr. Funkhouser was born July 20, 1904, near Whiting, son of Charles 'Deck' and Frances Maria (O'Conner) Funkhouser. He married Anna Viola Petersen June 23, 1926, in Sioux City. The couple farmed at Whiting until 1936. They lived in Sloan from 1936 until 1952 and in Ida Grove from 1952 until 1962. They returned to Sloan in 1962 where he was a custodian for the Sloan School System and later served as the grounds keeper at the Sloan Golf Course. Mrs. Funkhouser died Nov. 24, 1984, in Sioux City. He had been a resident of Pleasant View since 1987. Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Melvin (Norma Jean) Powell of Sloan; a son, Roger Ray of Brookhaven, Miss.; three sisters, Dorothy Nickolisen of Sioux City, Ada Baker of Whiting and Mrs. Kenneth (Hope) Rimmer of Cherokee; three brothers, Glen and Neal, both of Whiting and Bill of Lucerne, Calif.; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; a son, Donald; two grandsons, and three brothers.
