Leslie Harry Baum, 82, of San Jose, Calif., and formerly of La Grande, died Sept. 18. Memorial services were held in San Jose and Eugene with burial at Rest Haven Memorial Park. Music for the service was written by his daughter. Rest Haven Mortuary and Memorial Park of Eugene was in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Baum was born Aug. 29, 1920, to Harry W. and Roselva Wilson Baum in The Dallas. He graduated from La Grande High School in 1939, where he was among students who visited other schools to teach the dances of the era including "The Big Apple."

He served in the Navy during World War II in the Aleutians and South Pacific and married Doris Irene Holcomb on Nov. 22, 1943. He worked as a manager in the shoe department for JC Penney Co. for 24 years and then worked in the circulation department of the Mercury News. He was a member of the Los Gatos Christian Church and the Elsyness Sylvester and Mary Eva White Baum Family Association.

Survivors include his wife of San Jose, a daughter and her husband, Karen and Sal Tricomo, and other relatives.

A sister, Evelyn Harris died earlier.
