George Mills was a slave, owned first by Ambrose Mills near Columbus, Henderson County, NC. In 1856 he was bought by William Joseph Bryson of Hendersonville, NC, and given to Walter "Watt" as a body servant. (Walter Bryson Mem. #38108097, Oakdale Cemetery)

Civil War Veteran. Served in the Henderson County Home Guard, C.S.A.

His death certificate (#265) in Henderson County shows that he was African American and was survivied by his wife, Lucinda Mills. He was born on August 20, 1843 in North Carolina. He was 82 years, 9 months and 14 days of age when he died. His parents were unknown to the informant for his death certificate.
