Francis Frederick Cahanin Sr., 76, of Clute, Texas, passed away Saturday, January 1, 2005, in Houston, Texas.

Francis was born January 29, 1928, in Opelousas, Louisiana, to Jule Leopold Cahanin and Alma Ryder Cahanin. He served in the United States Army and was an area resident for more than 30 years.

He is survived by his nine children, Frankie Cahanin Rylee of Rosharon, Gwenlyn Faye Cahanin Gillespee of Vidor, Debra Lavergne Barnett of Lake Jackson, Minnie Lavergne Gilliam of Brazoria, Shannon Cahanin Simmons of Clute, Francis Frederick Cahanin Jr. of Lumberton, Harry Dwight Cahanin of Freeport, Christopher Don Cahanin of Queen City, Arizona, and Paul Shane Cahanin of Round Rock; 18 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; along with numerous other relatives and a host of friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley Jean Dixon Cahanin, in October 2003.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, January 6, 2005, at Lakewood Funeral Chapel with Preston Weatherly officiating.
