John Clinton McGehee was the 5th of 12 children of George Addison (or Addis) McGehee and Josephine Amazon Cotton/Cotten

John, a Spanish American War Veteran, was in the 2nd Mississippi Infantry Regiment, Company H (Adams Co, MS).

M. 28 Sep 1899, Amite Co, MS, to Adella Gardner.

He was the great-great grandson of Samuel McGehee, Sr. (b: 23 Jun 1759, VA d: 9 Jun 1821, Amite Co, MS) via his father, George A. McGehee, as well as via his mother, Josephine Cotten McGehee, though they were very distantly related.
