Vergie Mae Clark, 90 , went to be with our Lord Jesus Christ on June 6, 2009 at Lincoln Nursing Center, Lincolnton, NC.

She was born July 2, 1918 in Lincoln County a daughter of the late Christy Sylvanus "Bud" and Ida Pearl Smith and the devoted wife of 64 years to the late Charles Henry Clark, Sr.

Mrs. Clark was a homemaker and member of Antioch Methodist Church until its' closing after which she became a member of Crouse United Methodist Church.

Vergie was a graduate of Tryon High School where she served as class poet. Her poems reflected her caring and tender concern for her family, friends and her country. She was an excellent cook, loving homemaker and a wonderful Mother and Grandmother to her children and grandchildren. She had a positive attitude and gave thanks to God everyday for all of her many blessings.

Survivors include a son, C.H. Clark, Jr. and wife Annette Clark of Crouse, Daughters Martha Stroup of Bessemer City, Nora Heavner and husband Ben, of Cherryville, Virginia Sigmon and Ray of Catawba, NC. Brothers: C.S. Smith, Jr. and wife Alene of Lincolnton; Ralph Smith and wife Katherine of Lincolnton. Grandchildren, Denise S. Sellers and husband Lance, David C. Stroup and wife Lisa, Mark B. Heavner, Delisa S.Harrison and husband Chris, Melissa Clark Atkins,, Amanda Garrett Fowler,, Charles "Chuck" M. Clark and wife Casey, great grandchildren, Paige Sellers, Chelsey Stroup, Clark Sellers, Rebecca Fowler, Hannah Mae Fowler, Emily Atkins, Alex Heavner and Claire Heavner.

Funeral services will be held at Crouse United Methodist Church at 4:00 p.m.. on Tuesday, June 9, 2009, with Rev. Fred Falls and Jerry Evans officiating. Burial will follow in the Antioch United Methodist Church Cemetery, Crouse, N. C. The family will receive friends at 2:30 p.m. to 3:45 p.m. in the church fellowship hall, prior to the service.
