Born in Rolling Forks Township, Pope County, Minnesota, to Nels and Carrie Paulson Boe. He married Myrtle Davidson on January 9, 1924, and to their union was born Ralph Norin (sometimes spelled "Noris"), Marvin Alvin (died aged 4 months in 1926), Norma Mildred Boe Wesley, Donald, and Gloria Jean Boe Laughlin.

****
Nels and Carrie Boe did not have a son named Edwin. The grave particulars are wrong both for the first name as well as the year of birth. Alvin Julius Boe was born in Rolling Forks Township, Pope County, MN, on 7 November 1896. One possible explanation about the name mistake is that at times his name was spelled "Elvin," "Elwin," or "Alwin," although the original Pope County birth record clearly spells his name "Alvin," and the middle names of sons Melvin (died at age 4 months) and Donald.
